Catalogue No. 2241
This is an early 18th century (c.1725) George 1st walnut side table of small proportions. The table stands on slender turned legs that terminate with a pad foot. The legs have lappet carved knees. The table has an arrangement of two deep drawers with two shallow drawers to the centre (fitted with a key). The drawers are fitted with replacement brass engraved plate handles. The top is veneered with a panel of burr walnut that is edged with feather banding, with a wide cross-banded boarder. The edge of the top is moulded incorporating re-entrant corners (typical of the Queen Anne/George 1st period). The table is in good condition with the walnut exhibiting a great colour. As expected with any item of this age, especially pieces with burr wood veneers, this table has some small old repairs to the top (difficult to see due to the natural grain of the wood). The locks have also been replaced at some point in the table's lifetime.
