Catalogue No. 2368
This is a late 18th century (c.1780) Georgian mahogany and cherrywood provincial chest on chest. The chest stands on its original bracket feet. The lower section is fitted with three long drawers and the top section has three long and two short drawers. The drawers retain their original brass swan neck handles and have the original blue lining paper to the drawer bottoms. The side of the chest on chest are of panelled construction and are constructed in cherrywood. It is not uncommon to see different types of wood used on provincial pieces of furniture, although mahogany and cheerywood is an unusual combination. The drawer front colour has mellowed with age and compliments the warm honey colour of the cherrywood very well. The chest is topped with a mahogany moulded cornice that is decorated with a greek key motif. The chest on chest is in excellent clean and original condition with only very minor marks and bruises, commensurate with age and usage.
