Catalogue No. 2349
This is a late 18th century (c.1780) mahogany concertina action card table. The table stands on square chamfered legs, decorated with 'c' scroll brackets to the front and side. The table-frame extends and is held in place with an oak slide that runs in a groove inside the frame. This design of extending card table is the superior model, as when open has a leg in each corner (as opposed to to a swing out leg type). The top opens to reveal a green baize lined playing surface, including four 'wells' for gaming counters or coins (often called 'guinea wells' after the coin of the same name). The table is in excellent clean condition, with only minor marks to the frame, commensurate with age and usage.
