Catalogue No. 2373
This is a late 17th century (c.1690) oak panelled coffer from the William and Mary period. The coffer is constructed in solid oak throughout. The front of the coffer consists of four plain panels with the top rail having carved archaded decoration. In our opinion this carving is original to the coffer and not a later Victorian embellishment (borne out by the positioning of the worked mouldings). The top is constructed with four plain panels, mirroring the front. The lid retains its original wire hinges. The coffer is in excellent condition throughout and exhibits a rich warm colour. A few marks and bruises, commensurate with age and usage.
